This 2014 edition was a big challenge because the organizers had to do at least as well as the previous edition, under the seal of MP2013. Hopefully, programmers have not shied away from the task to bring, once again, the greatest jazz artists. On paper, this edition should meet this challenge with artists such as: The great pianist Herbie Hancock (07/22) joined by saxophonist Wayne Shorter, the iconic guitarist Jeff Beck, the Brazilian master Sergio Mendes, George Clinton (07/20) or Ahmad Jamal who turned 84 this year (07/18).

The opening of the festival will take place in front of the MuCEM on the « esplanade du J4 » on July 17th. It will be a free concert featuring the Cristophe Leloil quartet and Dhafer Youssef accompanied by the Swedish Nils Petter Molvaer: a must-see. Other concerts will take place in the green garden of the « Palais Longchamp », perfect for the summer.

On the Frenchies’ side, besides Christophe Leloil or Jacky Terrasson, the sensation of the year should be the venue of Ibrahim Maalouf (07/25). Indeed, this eclectic jazzman is coming to present his latest disc Illusions (« award-winning of the Victoires de la Musique »). Moreover he will have carte blanche during two hours and half and will invite musical partners such as Thomas Dutronc and his band, Asa and Michel Portal.

Around the festival, many events will be proposed to the audience. First, the « afters » of the festival, they will be free and will be held at the « Radisson Blu Hotel » of Marseille. This is an opportunity to discover local artists and growing talents, with a drink in the hotel’s lounge « Solaris ». In addition to these festivities, the band « Big Butt Foundation » will play under the Vieux Port’s porch on 18 and 23 July at 6pm.

In partnership with Marseille Provence Métropole (MPM), tramways will run until 1:30am during the festival, and Parking + metro tickets packs will be sold at the advantageous rate of 6 euro. Seats prices for the festival are between 29 and 40 euro.
