Fatimah Hossaini, a gifted young woman
Fatimah Hossaini is an Afghan-Tehran born artist. She wants to break the cliché of afghan women in blue burqa. With her pictures, she tells the beauty and courage of these women who have always faced restrictions in their life as women.
As a photographer, she is the youngest among 10 first winner of the Hypatia international award which reward to the commitment in the field of Research, art and professions. She won a few prizes and founded the Mastooraat Organization to help women involved in arts. She is also specialized in staged photography. Her work has been displayed in group exhibitions, art festivals, even solo exhibition, from China to USA passing by Europe.
Unfortunately, because of the Taliban who recently took the power in Afghanistan, enforcing their rude rules against women, she had to leave her country in august 2021. She is now a refugee in Paris but continue her job as photographer. In her country, she used to take pictures of women in all their beauty and femininity in order to fight against the cliché of blue burqa and show the courage of afghan women in a male dominant society.
By her work, she displays the ethnic diversity with pictures of Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, Qizilbashes, and Uzbeks in their traditional colorful clothing, showing the richness of Afghanistan culture and traditions. She also highlights all the beauty and femininity, the power and resilience of Afghan women and shows they are not weak or victim. We can see women in traditional clothing, playing instruments or driving, breaking the taboos and chasing her dreams by using mascara.
Her beautiful pictures are delicate and sensitive with shimmering colors. She has been invited to a collective exhibition in Marseille, at the City Hall 1/7, 61 la Canebiere, until May 13th. This exhibition “ce que les femmes afghanes ont à nous dire” will turn in France and Germany during a few months. DVDM
